Blah blah blah, I like fish blah blah blah.
Oh, don’t mind me, I’m just a little chapped off at my latest hobby. Why you ask? Let me paint the backstory for you:
It was about 4:30 AM this morning and EK had just gotten back into bed after going to the bathroom (Hey, she’s pregnant, it’s quite frequent these days). I help her arrange her pillows and start to drift off to sleep. I distinctly remember thinking “Hmmm. I played racquetteball yesterday, I wonder if I should get up and go to the gym this morning?” It was precisely after this moment when I hear a pop and then water. I semi-lucidly think “Huh, that’s weird, EK sure did pick a strange time to have a bath”. My brain then mentally registered the lump next to me almost instantaneously as she bolted up and said “Uh… Oh my God, it’s the fish tank!”
You know those movies where the submarine is getting crushed by water pressure and the water is blasting through the sides? It was pretty much like that…
Here is what it looked like after about 5 minutes of leakage and destruction levels had lessened to that of a babbling brooke:
For those of you with bad eyes or too lazy to click on the picture, here’s a closeup:
Rest asured, nothing other than the tank seems to have been nuked. And, I got a killer workout from being the master of the shop-vac from 4:30AM to about 11:00 AM with a brief stop to explian the situation to Baby-J when he woke up. it seems as if all of el pescados survived the incident except for one wiley red tailed Danio that decided “You know, this whole swimming in a crappy little makeshift bowl thing isn’t working for me. I’ve seen finding nemo, I’ll just jump out the window!” Pescado rojo is muerte mis amigos… But, he was a runt anyway.
I’m currently working on a makeshift basis with the fish in an old trashcan while I either source a new tank or fix this one. I’ve been told it’s possible to fix a glass aquarium, but the problem is finding the glass and sealing it correctly. I’ll most likely be buying a bowfront fish tank from a friend at work. It’s more expensive than the one we had, but my friend will let me pay him back gradually, so I don’t have to fork out a bunch of cash to buy a new one…

Sheesh. What a huge bummer man. Out of the blue (deep blue?) or what! The fishies are ok, that is the big thing. Good thing E has ninja reflexes!
So … What happens next? Did you buy that other tank? Where are the pix? Dude!
We have a 50 gallon glass tank if you want it. You can have it.
Ooh. I totally would have taken it, but I just bought a new one. Bummer….
Maybe for the play room down the road if I actually make this new one salt water
