Fire (I'm sure brimstone was involved)

So I have been reading the book of Luke since my favorite “not-my-pastor-guy” Mark Driscoll has been leading his church through the book of Luke. Our church has been doing a non-expositorial series, so I generally pick a series that is expositorial and stick with it as well as [...]

    Lifechangers: My parents get divorced

    Heartbroken by parent's divorce

Originally I posted that “Lifechangers” was going to be little things that changed my life. The more I thought about it, sometimes the big things are the big things. So I am changing my mind – hope you can deal with my flightiness.

Some events in life are big things with [...]

Back in town again… Work is, well work.

So, I’m sure this is almost universal after taking a vacation, but I had a really tough time undigging my self today at work. A lot more than usual after a vacation.

Though it’s almost universally known to everyone with an email account who’s talked to my wife in the last year or two, I figured [...]

Galveston Day 6 – “Another day, another duct taping”

(editorial comment – this post is being written in the van on the way back from TX – it may show up today [Saturday] or tomorrow[Sunday] because I’m running out of batteries.)

We started out our last day of gutting with three houses. The first house was a fairly simple sounding job “Gutting garage of drywall [...]

    Galveston – Day 4 (AKA – “Wardrobe Malfunction”)(Updated)

Today was a day wrought with mud, oil, and mold.

I started out the day in the house we were at yesterday in the pit / garage. 1.5 (ish) inches of mud that we had to shovel out. Apparently my boots couldn’t really cope with the suction of the mud and we had wardrobe malfunction. [...]

Day 3 – Mold and More Mold.

Today’s Mold fest was different than yesterday. We went to two houses. The first one was owned by a gal named Anna. She needed her Drywall chopped out because it was wet. With live wires behind it.

    Live, Hanging Wires… Oh yeah

It was nearly an electrifying situation…

But mainly the biggest “thing” about [...]

    Starting Day 3.

Day three is off to an interesting start. I am somehow not super sore like I thought I might be. I’m amazed at how God has replenished my strength. The foot is good.

    Off to [...]

Day 2 – Going to gut a house in Galveston.

So it has been a little over 8 weeks since Ike hit TX. And there are still boats in the street. I can’t even fathom what it must have looked like nearly two months ago…

    Boat #1 We saw…

    Boat #1 We saw…

We gutted a house today for a lady named Ninfa today. [...]

End of Day 1 in Houston – Church Service with Ecclesia Clear Lake

Today I finished out the night with a service held in the church here by a church called Ecclesia Clear Lake. The sermon was on the deliniation between the sacred and secular. The main thrust of the sermon was that there really shouldn’t be a difference between sacred and secular because there is nothing [...]

    Made it to the camp…

So we made it down to the came in SouthEast Houston in 17 Hours 5 minutes. We made it in 7 minutes later than our projection due to traffic.

The amazing thing is that the closer we got to the gulf, the damage got worse and worse.

The camp is pretty simple and the cot [...]

Leaving on a jet plane… or acutally in a van (but not down by the river…)

Today I embark on my first real mission / relief thing outside of the city in which I live. I wouldn’t say that I’ve been nervous or apprehensive about going, except I’ve been a little freaky-outy about driving there. You see I’m a driving control-freak. A trait I think I inherited from my [...]

Would I like to know Jesus??

So, new job is underway. It is not at Vmware as some had thought / known from talking to me in real life. It is at an exceptionally profitable oil company (aren’t they all these days?) in Downtown Denver. And in some ironic twist of fate, I’m able to take the Bus / [...]

The Worst Month of My Life.

In the past I thought that I was going through the worst weeks of my life.

Weeks where cars break down, I’ve lost jobs, been beaten up and beaten down.

But nothing could have prepared me for three weeks ago.

Assuming (using, of course, the ass+u+me principle) that everything was going to be fine, and that my wife was [...]

    Scary Church.

Have you ever been to a church that pretty much fits every single sterotype of “bad” Christianity that exists? Well, without naming names, EK, Little-J and I went to a church during the recent Colorado trip. Baby-M was sleeping, so we left him with Me-mah at the homestead. This is the story of [...]

    A very powerful video.

Well, my wife has occasionally called me the “Porn Nazi” because I take a pretty hard line about being anti-porn. It’s probably because I’ve been influenced badly and affected badly by it. But, mainly it’s because I’ve seen SO MANY guys turn their life into a trainwreck, and it usually starts with porn. To date, I’ve [...]

    Emancipate, Prime Minister, Emancipate

Emancipate, Prime Minister, Emancipate – An Eastern Religions Introspective.

I will be the first to admit that Eastern Religions have been a bit of a struggle to comprehend for me. My mother went on a bit of a soul-search after her divorce with my father prior to his (my father’s) death. She dated a guy [...]

Please pray for the BSA and the jamboree.

Please pray for the Boyscouts of America today, as they just had an accident a few hours ago and it appears that 5 men have been killed in an electrical accident. Pray for the families of the men, and that the media will not try and malign the organization over this [...]

Because we know how accurate internet Quizzes are.

I can honestly say that I’m a big detractor of pop culture type quizzes. They drive me nuts, as if to say one person can cram you into this little box here and your (XYZ) indicates that you’re this way. But, I do find them interesting. Just as I find handwriting analysis interesting, [...]
